Just wanted to wave at all the people reading this and announce that yes, I do still read LJ, and even consider commenting/posting, but life has been sort of complicated recently. First, I went on that recruiting trip to the UK, travelled there a bit, then a day after coming back to Zurich I flew to the US to visit The Main Office... and THEN the following weekend I flew to LA to hang out with family and meet my brother's new girlfriend. But things are finally calming down--well, work remains intense, but at least I am no longer sleep-deprived. And I have sort of reached the conclusion that, while I quite like the US, moving away was the right choice for me.
So, as you can see, I am still horribly self-obsessed. I want to write all about myself all the time, which is surely of limited general interest... and this is my excuse for not posting. Although I did promise to say a few words about the lotro musical, so here they are.
I thought the music was forgettable and the pacing very uneven. That said, I enjoyed it a lot on a fannish level. Best bit: the Balrog. Just before its entrance, a wind swept through the theater, blowing ash-like pieces of tissue everywhere. Very dramatic, and oddly scary. The Orcs were good, too. Best worst bit: Haldir's costume. While e.g. Legolas wore, well, Legolas-type clothes as seen in the movie, and Arwen wore Olde Medieval Dresses, Haldir wore gold harem pants, a gold bra last seen on Princess Leia in Star Wars II, and a phallic gold hat. Worst bit: probably the way Men were presented, with Gondor and Rohan compressed into one "Land of Men" with a sick Denethor to be cured by Aragorn--which I understand completely, but it was such an unimpressive Land, so briefly handled, while the Prancing Pony got a whole (confusing) song...
