Whee! Fun trailer!

And I have an explanation for Tauriel's hair! Apart from the obvious "slutty Maedhros" one, I mean. When I explained why it is a bit weird to a (geeky) colleague, he went "oh, but it's obviously not her natural colour."

Upon further reflection, I do not see any reason why it should be. I know Tolkien (or Pengolodh, or whoever) never wrote about Elvish hair dye, but I am sure they had the technology.

I think my version of Egalmoth might try it.

Only if Egalmoth does fuscia.

But wait - what does this say about Glorfindel's hair?

One would assume a person does not get named for DYED hair.

Oh, but you know he's totally vain enough to do a chamomile rinse now and then, and some lemon juice in the summer to bring out the [ahem] "natural" highlights.

But would Egalmoth be content with only a single colour?

I was thinking coloured streaks.

I tint my hair pretty close to Tauriel's color with henna, a natural dye. And I can totally see elvish Maedhros groupies dyeing their hair red.

Perhaps the "rare" red hair of Mahtan's family is due to the "rare" discovery of henna?

Now that Elvish hair dye is an established fact, I realize that we have heard often enough that your Glorfindel's hair colour is natural, but what about Ecthelion? I suspect we have just discovered the potential third meaning of fairest of the Noldoli. Perhaps he just uses dark hair dye out of modesty to blend in.

Ecthelion the Albino?

I'm sure Elvish hair dye is completely organic and healthy and beneficial, and I'm also certain they make sure that the carpet matches the drapes.

At least they only have a couple of places to dye. It's worse for Hobbits.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Thranduil bleached his hair. I know you're not supposed to dye your eyebrows, but c'mon bro.

... I mean on the subject of Elven hair dye, or that would be a bit of a non sequitur. Ahaha. Anyway, I like the henna idea, although in my experience, the shade is different -- though of course I don't know Tauriel's true hair color...

Elvish hair dye! Of COURSE they must have it! So why didn't anyone besides you mention it before now? *smacks head*

(Oh, that could have been a fun subplot in the Gondolin RPG...)
